Urination: Odor in Urine

By:
Kelly Shanahan

Question :

Lately, my urine has had a strong odor. I am not sure if this is because I am not taking in enough fluids or if there is another problem. Can you help?

--Theresa

Answer :

A strong odor to the urine can be due to many things -- infection, dehydration, vitamins, foods. Increase your fluid intake and think about things you may be eating that influence the odor of urine. (Asparagus is notorious for adding a strong, distinctive smell to the urine.) If the problem persists or is accompanied by any other symptoms, see your doctor for a urinalysis and further evaluation.
